Mastercard with strong profits amid credit crisis : Finance General
New House Of York - United States recognition card company Mastercard Inc Thursday reported a strong addition in net income for the 4th quarter, weathering the United States mortgage crisis on the dorsum of international gross sales and after merchandising its interest in a Brazilian competitor. Net income rose to 304 million dollars in the concluding one-fourth of 2007, up from 41 million dollars in the year-earlier period, in big portion owed to a 185-million-dollar addition from the sale of retentions in Redecard SA.
Shares in the Purchase, New York-based company surged more than than 10 per cent in trading on Wall Street. Its challenger American Express Carbon Dioxide reported a driblet in net income Tuesday owed to the in progress recognition crisis.
Revenue in the world's second-largest credit company climbed 28 per cent to 1.1 billion dollars. The weakening dollar contributed to nearly 5 per cent of that growth. The company had 916 million recognition card holders at the end of December, up nearly 13 per cent from a twelvemonth earlier.
